A friend and I spent New Year in Stockholm and went to this lovley restuarant for our last evening in town. The place has atmosphere of several centuries and very friendly and witty staff. It was their first night open after the christmas break and the restaurant was busy with Swedes and visitors. The menu was easy to understand thanks to the English translation. We ordered the rendeer and the cod and also sampled the pear cider. The food was excellent! Our waiter was very funny and appologised for the slight delay in the food arrival (we had been chatting and not really noticed the delay) and later gave us our coffees on the house (unpromted by us).

We had a lovely relaxed evening with excellent food and can only recommend this restaurant, but would advise you to book a table.

have yet to even turn up here, yet they will not take a larger booking without everyone selecting a set menu? even though we are looking to visit in two weeks time!

"WOW!!! Great food, what a place! must go there, highly recommended!!" - the reviews all said, so.....was it that good?

I spend a lot of time choosing where to eat and stumbled across many reviews and these are the ones I found, most offering praise to the establishment. Sadly however I expect that:

a) these reviews were written by themselves, the management [does that even happen I wonder]

b) people who wrote the reviews rarely dine out. [quite unlikely also]

c) The customer didn't write the review with the basics in mind and perhaps focussed on the building's charm and heritage [which is easily done].

Before you read on please allow me to highlight that I am sure the restaurant in question does perform very well on occasions but by assessment is based on my evening there. I am not going to write any words which simply follow others and since it was rather recent that we ate there I can be nothing other than accurate with my account of the evening.

So, first off, the food. The food was, well, it's a rubbish word to use but it fits, 'ok', the food was just 'ok', the truth is the food was quite simple and that's what makes it even more difficult to forgive them for allowing the food to be cold by the time it got to the customer. The service was colder than the food, 'ice cold', despite attempts to involve the staff with the usual and frankly pathetic, "what would you recommend?" etc their faces remained as though a smile would simply be too 'relaxed' given the prestigious reputation the restaurant has established over the years. So, poor food, pompous service but a nice feel to the place, an exceptional building which could be utilised so much better if the manager paid some attention to the basics. Gordan Ramsay would have a field day in this place, of that I am quite sure, so much potential but standards are slipping while others in Stockholm are going from strength to strength.

To surmise I would say this is one to avoid. Stockholm boasts some fine restaurants, and this isn't one of them.

Note: £140 for a two course meal for two accompanied with fine wine - then asked to pay for the use of the cloakroom.......come on guys! really!!!
